I thought it would be compelling to see this woman fight for and gain agency in her own life, but it never happened. Sir Ian is a terrible hero: both too horny to function and too much of an asshole to value Lucia as a human being. Every male character treats her like a thing—a thing many want to break. And the hero is the most mean-spirited of all, constantly punishing her for being beautiful and for wanting a say in her own future. I truly felt bad for the heroine in her struggle, and I think she deserved much better.
Boo.

A fitting end to an entertaining series.

Ian is a proper and serious diplomat and Lucia is the headstrong and high spirited illegitimate daughter of a prince. While Ian is content with his solitary and full of responsibilities life, Lucia is eager to escape her father's dictates of what her life should be and adamant on picking her own husband, instead of accepting someone her father, or even worse, a stranger would choose for her.

Ian and Lucia make a very good couple, balancing each other and making one another better. Ian finds out that there are more important things than his work and Lucia finds freedom in an unexpected way.

I really enjoyed reading their story and I'm looking forward to more of the author's work.

DOWN AND DIRTY QUICKIE REVIEW!

One Sentence Summary:

An illegitimate, rebellious Italian princess gets shipped to England so Mr Ambassador Hero can husband hunt her a spouse.

What part made you fangirl squeal:

Two words. Ruby. Tiara. If I explain or expound I WILL RUIN YO FEELS & YOU’LL SUE ME OVER ROMTASTIC SPOILERS!

Favorite Character:

Dude. Of COURSE Lucia! Chick’s an independent sassy princess who SLAYS. Her brain & bod & personality make her queen!

How smexy was the smex?

Not frequent, but DAAAAAAAAMN dat carriage scene! I was face-fanning and heart-clutching and everythang.

Name That Trope:

Opposites Attract, Alpha Heroine/Beta Hero, At Odds/Enemies To Lovers

Whose Line Is It Anyway:

“He knew not to mock her size or constitution. He liked his balls too much to do that.”

Got any bitching to do?

Yes. It ended. What the fuck?!

Visually Depict Yo Book Feels:

Famous last words:

Seriously. Good book is gooooooooooooood. The hero goes all jealous with his angsty-pants of "ME NO CAN HAVE," the heroine goes all bomb-diggity with her brains and attitude! If there’s a criticism against this book, that critic is lying they ass right off their backside.

For the most part, I really liked this book. I enjoyed that there was lots of tension between the characters, that they didn't simply fall into one another like so many characters in romance novels do. I liked Ian especially, how he stuck to his guns and didn't simply let his dick guide him everywhere.

The part I didn't like was the ending. It seemed very unnecessarily roundabout. She pushes him into popping her cherry, and then they have this awkward forced wedding. Eventually he decides he doesn't hate her guts and hey, maybe actually loves her a little. Then in the end, he gives up the career he loves so he can, what, sit around the house all day playing the good husband? It just seemed very contrary to the rest of the book.

But still, it was a fun read.
