The highlight of my binge reading of print books today (I'd been neglecting them). Everything I could have hope for from the description and the multiple recommendations. The last thing I would have liked to see was poetry that conformed to a more traditional style considering there's not quite enough poetry that delves into the body, disability and love & sex so intimately and so urgently.

“i know you are gentle and kind and
impeccably egalitarian / but i know too
your hand on my throat”

“to love you is also to envision the death of the animal
that is so bearing of its teeth
but i’ll take it anyway”

Bowen's collection is spewing with questions about the body. What is this trap of skin and lesions? How can it be a product that makes products? In this collection, you'll find desires both requited and unrequited. You'll find raw terror and honesty.

and calcium
i want their bones to grow
healthy and chalky firm
but i don't want to hold them"
