OKAY so, saying that this book was completely boring would be a lie since I'm a huge fan of the franchise. However, while I liked the set-up; the pacing when it came to discoveries was agonizingly slow. You'd be there reading the book, Decker would say "They're coming!" and then you'd have to read multiple pages of them fighting them off and dying in the process. While that isn't bad per se, it became a repetitive scenario throughout the entire book.

Sort of wish the book touched on Decker's empathy a bit more? Well from what I read, it connected to his descendance of Ellen Ripley in some sort of fashion because of the scene where
he was talking in different voices during his seizure which I believe is just a redo of a conversation Ellen had centuries ago
. The book probably would've been more bearable if they included some elements of that into it.

Despite all of that, I still loved the noticeable dynamics of the people who were actually named. You could tell Adams did care for the people she worked alongside with. I suppose Adam's kindness is the reason that
Decker was so hooked on her. I wouldn't call it love but it seemed like they would've been able to form a deeper relationship if she didn't have a queen placed inside of her
.

I would be lying if I said the deaths didn't hold any weight to me. More specifically
Perkin and Piotrowicz's. It probably hit close because of the illusion of the dynamic they had even though you didn't see a lot of them. Petey saying that he considered Perkin's as an older sister and then Perkins asking him to say that he loves her one last time nearly had me crying
.

I don't really expect any character to be fleshed out when it comes to these books since they're mostly made to expand the Alien universe more, but this book just left me yearning for more or for something that isn't going to happen.

Barring the fact that this is an audiodrama, it's really impressive how cinematic this story is. If it were made into a movie, I think it would far surpass the more recent Alien movies.

3.5 stars. Very entertaining for what it is. I love the Audible radio dramas I've found like this, and the Alien franchise is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.

I do like that once a year Amazon offer me an Audible free trial, one free credit, and a month of access to their Audible Plus Catalogue. For the next few weeks I'll be working through their 'Alien' offerings.

For some reason the first audio dramatisation isn't available in the UK, so I had to start with the second in the series and have now moved onto this, the third.

Unlike [b:Alien: River of Pain|60578320|Alien River of Pain (Alien, #4)|Christopher Golden|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1646797127l/60578320._SX50_.jpg|216490174], this story does feature a number of callbacks to the unavailable [b:Alien: Out of the Shadows|43540872|Alien Out of the Shadows (An Audible Original Drama)|Tim Lebbon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1547247648l/43540872._SX50_.jpg|24670995]. This slightly detracted but wasn't the main issue I had with this.

The big issue was the story. Set 300 years after the events of the films, a descendent of Ellen Ripley finds themselves being press-ganged into returning to the infamous moon, by the Weyland Corporation. The twist is that he has a unique gift, he is a telepath/empath and can sense the xenomorph's thoughts. If this wasn't far-fetched enough, the alien's can sense that he is a descendant of Ellen Ripley, who they have labelled as 'The Destroyer'.

The plot follows the usual path of mercenaries being used to try and capture a live specimen, close calls, dark passages, face huggers, an Alien Queen or two, and the evil corporation with their relentless goal of weaponising the xenomorphs.

Although well produced, sadly this only gets 3 stars.

Brilliant second instalment, just as good as the movies, excellent voice acting. Can’t wait to start the next one
