Phillis Wheatley is a fascinating historical figure, and this children's novel is a wonderful place to start for anyone looking to understand more of her life, times, and work. Much of this story is fictionalised due to a great lack of record, but Cooper does a wonderful job of making the book accessible, moving, and informative, without ever watering down the realities of slavery.
I definitely recommend this one.
