Classic King... no magical realism in this one.  Horrifying situations.. real people.  I didn't finish this book when it came out... gave King a break after reading everything straight from the Bachman books forward..
It's nice to see that it doesn't change.

if you came here looking for a SK book because you're familiar with his work, you probably know what to expect. if you aren't - it's an excellent crime thriller, grabs you and doesn't let go til the end. but it's a veeery dark ride, full of gore and hatred and shock value (only thing stopping me from giving it a 5), so proceed with caution.

Loved this! A thrilling story: the action is right there at the start, after which we slow down and get to know the characters and what's going on, leading up to a thrilling, page-turning end. The only thing that was a bit hard to believe is that
Hodges would so easily believe that the assault would take place in the weekend as Brady had said… Though on the other hand, when we really want a thing to be true (that there would be no danger for Jerome's mother and sister) we tend to believe anything that'll point in that direction. On the other hand, Hodges is supposed to be the best of the best… Well, in any case I loved this story too much to let this bother me (so like Hodges, I'll believe whatever fits the conclusion that what he did was logical lol).

It's a thriller not a horror, but there's some gore and nauseating stuff. Enough tension as well.
I was really worried King would be killing Odell, it would've lost a star lol, but luckily he got to live.
And towards the end my eyes and mind just couldn't read fast enough!
Grew to love the characters and I can't wait to meet them again in the next book!
