Enjoyable, but the ending was so overly dramatic 😅 I think I'm just not a YA girlie.

I somewhat sorta made a strange choice when I decided to read this yesterday. Mostly because it's almost summer and I live in a place where it's perpetually summer save for January when the weather takes a turn and decides to strike me down for wishing it was cold. Needless to say, cozy snowy vibes are not something I get often.

Moving past that, I picked this book up because of the cover. I do judge books my covers. I am honest. The illustrator did a great job. This was also picked up because I needed a little something to change up what I read.

I found the story to be nice and very contained. Only a few high stakes like the Chekov's gun elixir of life and Ellery getting stabbed while I was eating my lunch. It was mostly calm and peaceful and about as teenage romance as teenage romance can get.

Speaking of romance. This was very teen good job. Ellery is what I'd imagine myself like if my version of a weird hot guy was a weird hot girl. Do I think I'd threaten a goddess with a bloody shirt? No. I do like their confidence though.

Now about the rating... I felt many ups and downs reading this and did switch between this book and my other one. I'd say this book is a 3.5. In general, I kinda went out of my comfort zone here, so I'm not surprised that it didn't go high. I'm not really ever disappointed in books (unless it's school) which is why I can say it's a 3.5 and not anything else.

There was also the jarring reminder I know someone irl with the name Knox. Enough to bar me from a 5 star reading experience. Sorry.

Favorite quote: "Ellery's heart sank like a stone and settled in their gut. Knox needed a human. Any human. But he happened into one with a crush, one who could be manipulated with a flirty wink. How lucky for him indeed."

^ I found Ellery's pining to be very enjoyable and it really made their character for me. It was either this quote or Charley's moment at the beginning where she talks about Knox's beauty.
