Really more of a 4.5. Just so well done. Fun-to-read, twisty curvy plot. Great characters. I am so glad to have discovered this author and I would recommend this to anyone who likes thrillers. So fun.

Meh. Started off promising - spree killings, suspect is a kid who killed his abusive parents - and devolved into such farfetched, ridiculous nonsense that it became almost unreadable. The retired police dog was pretty awesome, though.
Gardner did not disappoint in this new thriller. You think you have the murder pegged, but your wrong. I love thinking I've finally caught on to Gardner's wildly insane mind, only to be reminded why she's the write and not me! Way more creative.
This is a must read. It's an easy to follow, quick read! Couldn't put it down.

Sharlah is a teenage girl who is in foster care because her brother beat their dad with a baseball bat in order to save both of their lives 8 years ago. She is about to be adopted by a couple, Quincy & Rainie, who are retired FBI profilers. They receive a call to assist about a double murder at a local gas station where Sharlah’s older brother (who she hasn’t seen in 8 years) may be a suspect. This book follows their investigation as Quincy and Rainie work to find the killer and unravel how it’s connected to Sharlah. I really enjoyed this book and it kept me hook from the beginning. If you’re looking for a great suspenseful mystery, check this one out!
Lisa’s gone and done it again! Loved the twists and turns!
I'm so glad that Gardner returned to Quincy and Rainie. both enjoyable characters and plot. I wish we could have had Kimberly pop in! can't wait for the next one.
This was an emotional rollercoster..
I've learned so many things from this book, not just about guns, spree killers, trauma or how to survive in the wild, but also the real meaning of family, acceptance, belonging, love and trust..
Both Sharlah and Telly went through horrible experience at a young age, loosing a part of their souls in the process.. I loved how their Foster parents respected the fact that these kids are broken (to some extent) and they embraced them for who they are, were patient while trying to bring them back to life..
This book made me work my brain so much, just because I wanted to have a slight reassurance or hope that Telly is innocent. I was basically trying to find flaws in whatever theory Quincy or the others had. I apparently accused the wrong people
