I could not put this book down. I have always loved Rainie and Quincy so the book has some natural pull for me. The story is intriguing and heartwarming with a lot of twists. It kept me guessing till the end. I am a fan of Lisa Jackson and this book has only made me love her more. Wonderful and addictive!
After being attacked by his drunk and abusive father , Telly, a nine year old boy, kills him and his mother to protect and save the life of his 5 year old sister Sharlah.
Since that faithful day the brother and sister have been separated, each put in the care of a foster family.
Everything seems to be going well until some years later Telly’s foster parents are brutally murdered and he is nowhere to be found.
Did Telly kill his kind and caring foster parents? If so, what was the motive?
My reasons for the 2 stars are as follows:
All throughout the book I had the feeling that the author wants to make sure time and time again that the reader understands what had gone on years ago and what is happening now; even to the point of explaining the whole plot in the epilogue to make sure that after reading the 400 pages we really really got what happened and why.
Repetition of the same sentence, sometimes word for word, in almost every chapter, too many assumptions and speculations and the frequent use of the word "maybe" in every other paragraph became maddening and nauseating.
Boring details, check.
Monotonous narrative, check.
Predictability, check.
With so many 5 star reviews for this book I can only conclude that it’s not the book, it’s me!
There is only one thing that’s bugging me. Is it wise for a foster parent to teach a child with a history of violence how to use a gun and take him target shooting?

Right Behind You is a phenomenal read! It’s intense, dramatic, suspenseful, mysterious and truly captivating! I ended up reading it in one sitting as I couldn’t bring myself to stop reading, I felt so invested and had to get answers to all my questions. And my goodness I was not disappointed! I was kept on my toes until the very end, which is my favorite type of read.
This was my first book of the series so I can accurately say that this series does not need to be read in order as I easily jumped into this one.
If you are looking for a suspenseful read look no further this is the one for you! A must read!

I am not sure why I haven't read more of these book in this series as I am a big fan of Lisa's writing. She just has a way of investing in a well thought out story. I am not deeply invested in Quincy and Rainie's story and to be honest they played a more minor role in this story, it was more about their soon to be adoptive daughter Sharlah and her brother Telly.
The two siblings were separated after Telly killed their father, after he violently stabbed their mother. As it was self defense he was never charged, and he was only nine years old. While both carry their scars and they both struggle to move forward it seems trouble has followed Telly.
After Telly's foster parents are found murdered and two more victims are found dead, after he appears on the security cam, the race is on to find Telly and to stop the threat for more violence. The facts don't add up though, and everything is more than it seems. A closer look at foster relationships, family dynamics and the damage a violent upbringing can bring.
I received a free copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was glad to see more Quincy and Rainie. Though D.D. Warren has grown on me over the course of that series, I always loved the Quincy/Rainie books. This one shows where they are now, what they have been up to and keeps me guessing what was really going on. Though I was sure it wasn't what it seemed, I still had to keep guessing what and who.
