It's such a nice rhythmic rhyme. It was absolute pleasure to read.

Only giving 5 stars because of how well Michelle Obama read it on PBS

Went hunting for this one when I had two kids on two consecutive days begging for it. Funny story with lots of animal friends and some good ol' trickery involved. In my box for Monster storytime.

One time read, and then go back to pull out features. Flow of reading, prediction, characteristics of different characters in the book.

I am not a big fan of stories of trickery and "cleverness." I wish there were an element of kindness to be found somewhere in this story. I would love it much more if there were. But even without any kindness, the rhyming, the pictures, the humor, and the discussion to be had about what is going on in the story make this a very worthwhile book for my 4 1/2 year old.

Great read-aloud material: The Gruffalo has rhyming, fantastic pictures, and repeating phrases.
