This was oodles of fun! I really missed this series so I am glad that I can continue this series with the Tokyopop DE editions~ *dances*
In this one Yotsuba becomes a princess when she she reads a book, which includes her making some long hair (crafts and ribbons) and a friend making her a dress (which was totally awesome and I loved seeing Yotsuba go from sceptic to totally amazed), I had such a laugh how offended she was that her dad didn't notice she was being a princess. So cute! And there is more! There is questions asked to friends because Yotsuba is going to Tokyo! She wants to know all the best spots + more. I loved that people around her are so kind to her, plus either play along (like with the gems she got from Jumbo) or really help her out. And then there is the trip to Tokyo! I just love seeing her and her dad having fun and meeting with family and eating all the food. That part with the girls dressed as aliens was hilarious, loved that the girl did a little play for Yotsuba, so cute! Yotsuba is adorable, a bit precocious but I love it. She makes me smile and laugh.

I cannot wait to read the next volume! Soon!

It is hard for me to overstate the importance this series has played in my life. Years ago a friend was helping me get into manga (it never fully took- more from a lack of funds and time than interest) and this was something he recommended. I devoured it. This series played a key role in my decision to become an elementary school teacher. Now, years after the release of the last volume, I find myself a single dad raising a daughter who more resembles the titular character than doesn't, something I never would've foreseen a decade+ ago when I first began reading the series. What began as a "window" read has now become a "mirror" where I see my own life reflected back at me.

I only mildly exaggerate when I say that everything about this series is perfect. The hyper-detailed background art juxtaposed with the simple character models. The complete and total lack of cynicism to the scripting. The fact that the plot can spend an entire chapter on experiencing a buffet for the first time. There's not been a single chapter that I did not enjoy, even after 14 volumes.

To conclude, I pre-ordered this volume and have been steadily nursing it, not wanting it to end, for the past 2 months. I'm heartbroken it has. Now, I'm left to wait again, but I'll gladly do so in hopes that a volume 15 eventually arrives.

The wonder of trash bag princess dresses, beading, bad friends, buffet lunches, and yoga (which Yotsuba is unaccountably fantastic at). There's a trip to Toyko where we meet Yotsuba's aunt (and Yotsuba handles subway turnstiles), but other than that, it's pretty plot free. A good dose of the usual funny splendor.
