Audio book while doing daily walks. Really like this character, and CJ Box does a decent job of writing from the point of view of a woman. Cassie Dewell is a private investigator in Montana. This story has her on the trail of a missing PI from Tampa who was searching for a man who swindled rich women out of millions of dollars. Cassie takes over the case as well as trying to determine the truth about Sir Scott’s treasure. This is a buried treasure that folks are searching for based on a poem left on the specials board of a small town restaurant one night. Cassie is believable as a person and as a PI. There is an appearance of April Pickett as she hires on as an intern. I enjoyed the information as to the history of the mining barons and the folks that they exploited in the Butte/Anaconda area. I will choose to believe that it is accurate as I do not know anything about the area.

This is an interesting series! You can read Treasure State as a standalone but the series is pretty good! The characters are fun and I like the mysteries!

Mixed feelings about the way the pandemic was referenced in this. I read to escape every day life, not be reminded about what a shitty situation we’re still in because of other people’s selfish ass decisions.

Thanks to edelweiss for an advance copy.

Here is another strong entry in the Cassie Dewell lineage. Mr. Box manages to have multiple story lines rolling along together and apart in an enjoyable escape.

Conservative politics keeps creeping into Box novels. Now we learn his views on the COVID pandemic and his opposition to social isolation and face masks. Not surprising since he was born and lives in the red state of Wyoming where, as of this date, only 60% of its population has been vaccinated.
