This was a really strange book to be honest. I really enjoyed it, and I liked the depth that Cavalo had and that by the end of the book I couldn't figure out if he was hallucinating or if he could actually hear Bad Ass. Regardless, the voice of Bad Ass provided some much needed humor to what was a very dark and twisted book. I don't think I would have been able to finish it without the goofiness and fun that perspective brought.
I found some of the abstract ideas in the book to be a little frustrating as it felt like they weren't moving the story forward, but merely projecting the idea of "drama". I didn't think the repeated talk of "bees" felt authentic. I wanted more demonstrating rather than telling, in that regard.
What I loved about this book was that I felt engaged the whole time. It was a bit of a "blink and you miss it" type book, with so many thoughts (mostly crazed) passing along as we follow Cavalo and the Dead Rabbit Lucas. I will however, always feel a bit ripped off that we didn't get to delve into Lucas' character. I know this will probably happen in the second book, but I think I needed it a bit more in this one to help solidify my connection to the characters.

I planned to read one chapter and accidentally read the whole book.

This was dark and unlike anything I’ve ever read before but... I loved it!

TJK does everything. And does it so well. Funny, emotional, crazy good sexual tension...so good. Palpable. Now I'm going to add post-apocalyptic despair and insanity to that list of awesome. W+S is different from the other Klune books I've read. This is so dark and believable and fascinating.

Postapocalyptic and literary. Probably the best thing I've read by Klune.

Still working out my thoughts for a full review, but the rating is decided. Definitely recommended for those who enjoy dystopian darkness with a dash of hope. And for anyone wanting to push their boundaries. Beautifully written.

Really liked the concept but the execution....not so much. Not rooting for Cavalo or Lucas either so *shrugs*

Stunning and haunting.

Hands down this book is one of the best postapocalyptic novels I've read. The story-telling is breathtaking, the cast of characters consists of a dog(yay), a sentient malfunctioning AI (double yay), two very very dangerous grey-moral individuals (really scary and so interesting to read about).

TJ Klune is so incredibly talented and his books are all different genre and stories. He nailed the Mad-Max-esque world in this one, the atmosphere was exceptionally well-crafted. The characters are something else, never a dull boring moment. The dynamic between them was interesting to read.

Highly recommend to everyone and I can't wait to read the sequel.
