I almost didn’t read this book because it’s YA and I typically don’t like YA books. I’m too old for them to be relevant, the characters are frustrating for me because they make decisions a teenager would make (yes, I know, I know. They are. This is why I don’t read them). They aren’t written for me, they’re written for teenagers. However, this one is highly recommended, even by older readers who don’t enjoy YA, so I gave it a chance. And I’m really glad I did!

It was a struggle to read sometimes, not because it wasn’t good, but because Yads family was so frustrating. It was so hard to read him being misgendered and dead named, but it was part of the story. It needed to happen to explain why he did things the way he did. And oooh boy did I even resonate with him and feeling guilt about hurting family even when it’s their fault.

I figured out the plot twist pretty early on… around the 40% mark, but that’s a feature of YA, so it honestly didn’t bother me. It didn’t detract from the twist, because the character didn’t see it coming.

All in all, I really really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it, even for readers who don’t like YA.

This book had me hooked beginning, middle, and end. Aiden Thomas did a remarkable job with the characters, plot, world building and every aspect of this story. I look forward to reading the sequel and everything else Thomas writes.

Great listen on audiobook! It's a super interesting world and concept and, while I predicted some of the things that happened, there were twists ai hadn't expected and kept the whole thing fresh.

Cemetery Boys is a mystery wrapped in a coming-of-age story. Yadriel knows who he is, but it is a bit harder to get his community and family to acknowledge these truths. It’s ever harder to focus on that when there’s the mystery of the ghost boy and other missing people.

A little bit of a predictable antagotwist but this was still a great read. Trans-centric, murder mystery, latiné cultures front and center, and a happy ending of trans love? Yay. I'll take a little predictability if it means we get this too!

On and GREAT worldbuilding. Love the setup for a possible second book

This book is full of life and joy, celebrating the diverse identities of its main character, Yadriel, while also being honest about the challenges he faces in his different communities. All of the characters are vibrant and lovable, and the magic feels real.

Minorly plot spoilers
The twist at the end was also executed brilliantly
and I was unable to stop during some of the final chapters, even though it was way past my bedtime
