I didn't know the giver was a series, however, I saw this book when I was getting a copy for my kids and saw this so grabbed it. Now I realized and this is the last book so hopefully the other two aren't spoiled. Although, it still went perfectly as a second book.

Wonderful book, the three parts to it are all so well crafted, to be connected but completely different in setting and tone. This book really brings together the whole quartet and is such a satisfying conclusion.
This was my favorite book in the series. I think I loved how it tied everything together. I also thought it had the most interesting story line. Although it was a longer book than the others, I felt it was a much easier read. It was the perfect conclusion!
A highly satisfying conclusion to The Giver series, where all three previous novels come together. The story begins with Claire, a Birthmother in a well-run community. When her "product" is removed from her, she is transferred from that job to another. Although foreign to her, Claire continues to wonder about the baby to whom she gave birth and finds a way to learn of his existence. Knowing that she cannot be with him, she is heartbroken and decides, in a state of despair, to escape the community during a storm. Almost dying, a different community saves her and takes her in and helps her to recover her strength. Convinced to return to find her son, she makes an arduous journey in hopes of seeing him again.

The series were a decent read, the ending was a let down.
I loved the premise of this--going back and looking at Gabriel's birth mother--but it ended up feeling a lot longer than necessary. The huge chunk between Claire leaving the community before finding her way to the village was a bit painful to get through. While the training she went through was impressive, it felt like a huge speed bump and in need of some heavy editing.
Seeing the way her storyline and the whole Trademaster thing overlapped and worked out with the rest of the characters from the quartet was neat, though, and overall I liked the ending. While this does have some good, solid moments, it's nowhere near as emotional as any of the previous books.
