This is the stunning ending to the Giver series. All of the books had great characters, developed and weaved into the ending. Great book!

I thought Jonas and Gabe died in The Giver, the author said so. But ... it is OK, I can understand for the economy of the book. Otherwise, it is a book for teenagers, nice, with some adventures. The world is build in an interesting form. The book has some ideas from the fairy tales and it is good to identify and discuss them with kids: the challenge, the acceptance, the motherhood, the path, mother searching her son, the herbmasters. I don't like the Trademaster, the Evil; he doesn't fit in the book; according with other characters construction, he is something supernatural and until the end the book doesn't have this kind of issue.

I didn't have high expectations on how this book would end because I know I'd still be left with a lot of questions but I really like how Lowry decided to wrap up the quartet with this book. I enjoyed reading Claire's adventure (although I got a bit bored with the narration of her climibing out) and it was interesting to read about her longing for her child even though, at the beginning, she had this little idea of what love really is. And while it's sort of obvious already at the end of Messenger, I found it cute that Kira and Jonas ended up together.. and with kids! I liked that the story had a happily ever after feel to it.
Science fiction and fantasy are NOT the same thing and shouldn't be crossed in a series...
After a somewhat disappointing books 2 and 3, finally a worthy follow-up to The Giver. The first in the series is still the best, of course.
