I got this book through the First Kindle of the Month program and I was gladly surprised. Although at first it seems just another romance novel, it is actually very well written, the plot has some surprises throughout, and there is depth to the characters (one of the usual flaws of romance novels is that the characters tend to be only bi-dimensional and their relationship pretty flat). I enjoyed how the relationship between Ami and Beck developed and how the characters grew throughout the book. Moreover, when Beck finds about Ami's past, his reaction is much more realistic and less predictable than the usual response you expect in this kind of stories. It is a very sweet story and an enjoyable read.

Nice holiday book

A sweet book about someone new to town, Beck, and a life long resident, Ami falling in love over the holiday season.

But, it was about more than that. Small town community where the majority of residents are friendly, helpful, and supportive. With the help of the Good Hope residents, both Beck and Ami come to terms with their secrets. There were a number of sweet, fun, and funny moments.

Simple super quick read.

I liked Ami. Her character is a sweet person who wants to help others fueled by trying to right her mistake but who can blame her.

The hero is best described as a grumpy man but hes grieving and I liked him. He was grumpy but not in a way that was off putting.

Enjoyed the HEA.

A cute and sweet Christmas story. I love Christmas stories and don't care that most are pretty predictable. I can easily see this made into one of Hallmark channel Christmas movies. A bit raunchy in a couple of spots, but overall rather tame. I really like the small town setting and how everyone helps and looks out for each other.

I wanted a Christmas themed book to get me into the holiday spirit but this book was painful. The premise was okay but it could not hold my attention for more than a couple of minutes at a time. The characters were so nice ALL of the time that it was cringe-worthy. I would not recommend.

Christmas In Good Hope had me genuinely interested in the characters' lives. The author made the characters likable, but also believable. They weren't without flaws. Maybe I'm just a sucker for sweet romances. This book made me smile, tear up, and had me rooting for the romance to work out [even though you know it will. It always does in a romance, right?] It's pretty typical with the "formula" where two people get together, there's a conflict, and they work it out. The fun part is how they get there. I found this to be a beautiful story of love and forgiveness.

If you are looking for a light-hearted (mostly) romance that's got a good story line, this would be a great one to pick up in my opinion.

I received an eARC of this book as a part of Amazon's Kindle First program. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

Christmas in Good Hope
by Cindy Kirk is a sweet, contemporary romance about grief and second chances. This is such a sweet story about two people from very different backgrounds finding each other and bringing out the other’s best. Ami and Beckett’s story is one that you should not miss!

Ami Bloom is the eldest of four sisters and the only one to stay in the small town of Good Hope, Wisconsin after their mother died. She’s a devoted daughter to her father, filling in the quiet for him and keeping him on his toes. She’s also a successful business owner, having started her own bakery when she moved back to town. I love her! She’s independent, loving, and yet she is still broken. She’s broken over her mom and something I don’t want to reveal as it plays a BIG part in the story (no spoilers here!!!).

Then enters Beckett Cross, the southerner who moved to Good Hope earlier in the year, bought her dream house AND the diner next door to her bakery. Beckett is mysterious, keeps to himself, is a bit of a Scrooge, and very, VERY broken. He loved once, once he was a very different man, but he lost everything. So Beckett ran from his past to the little town of Good Hope. Beckett is…he’s amazing! He’s caring, sweet, but trying to be set in his ways. He’s closed off to everyone except for Ami, who quietly slips into his heart.

The plot of the story revolves around the relationship between Ami and Beckett. At the onset, Ami is asked to get Beckett to decorate his shop for the Twelve Days festival (a Christmas festival in the town) AND to get him to agree to open his house for the Victorian Christmas tour. Ami goes along with it and Beckett pretty much caves to everything she asks. Their relationship is built on the fact that neither of them knows the other. It’s a novelty for Ami who grew up in a small town where everyone knows everyone else and for Beckett because no one looks on him with pity. The question really becomes what will happen to them when they do find out each other’s secret.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It is such an endearing story set during my favorite time of the year. The author gives a great voice for Ami and Beckett as the chapters alternate POV and she brings to life the charm of living in a small town. If you enjoy contemporary romance, the holidays, or you’re looking for a heart-warming read this weekend, grab a copy of Christmas in Good Hope, you won’t regret it!

Couldn't quite wrap my brain around the idea that the guy who was an attorney practicing in Georgia was somehow also barred in Wisconsin, a state he'd never been to until he randomly pointed to it on a map with his eyes closed and decided to move there.
