The writing in this book is SO bad… it doesn’t even seem like the same author as the first book. Poppy and Langham don’t seem like the same characters from the previous books at all. I was bored within pages.

It’s a historical fiction, romance, sort of enemies to lovers, murder mystery…what’s not to love. The only reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars is because the ending of it felt rushed to me. The entire story really drew me in from the mystery to the romance and dynamics of the characters.
Been a while since I finished this and tbh I don't really remember it EXCEPT for feeling like it was a bit heavy-handed in trying to make the characters likeable to each other but misunderstood by everyone else. Fun but not memorable.

Cute enemies to lovers romance. I had not read the prior books in this world so it was very surface for me- however it was a fun read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Favorite book in the series by far, as I liked both main characters and felt like the mystery made the most sense, both in why they were investigating it, and the actual reveal of the villain.
Much more murder mystery than romance but really fun and one good spicy scene.

Enjoyable enough, more murder mystery than romance but the romance was very sweet.
This book really didn’t do it for me. I found at least one error, which always COMPLETELY takes me out of a reading experience. And, I found Langham and Poppy really quite annoying. Obviously Poppy shouldn’t have been treated the way she was by the ton, but she was also a rude bitch too!!! And I’m meant to believe that the DUKE OF LANGHAM, born and bred for his dukedom, just finds that absolutely charming and lovely??? PUH-LEASE. Julia Quinn does this type of story WAY better, in my opinion. Also, the stuff with the Lucifer Society and the eating of hearts….it was just a touch on the dramatic for me. I didn’t really care about Lovell, or Lord Short, or even Violet for that matter. I didn’t care about a single one of them. The entire cast of characters just made me mildly annoyed, and the story was so ridiculous that by the end I was just happy it was over so I could return it to the library.
