Loved this book, I am challenging myself to read more this year which I struggle to do as I lose interest quickly. However this is the fastest time in which I have read a books from cover to cover.

I couldn’t put it down and looked forward to picking it back up again. I need the next one now.

I love it when a book about a certain profession is actually written but someone who has experience in that profession!

Young barrister, Adam Green, and his pupil master, Jonathan Taylor-Cameron KC take on the defence of a man accused of killing the celebrated police officer and national treasure, Grant Cliveden. It doesn't look good for the accused but Adam is determined to do his best for his client, even if Jonathan has written  him off as a hopeless case.  However, as the case unfolds, things turn out to be far more complicated than expected and increasingly sinister. Can Adam get to the truth?

I really enjoyed this book, partly because I used to work in the law courts and I miss the  drama of a good trial. The depictions of court procedure brought it all back to me and I really liked the characters - hardworking Adam with his humble roots and strong sense of justice, pompous, lazy Jonathan, posh, privileged fellow pupil, Georgina, Adam's rival for a permanent place at chambers, and of course Adam's well-meaning mum who is determined to fix him up with a nice Jewish girl. It was entertaining and gripping with lots of plot twists and it was also quite amusing in places.

The only thing that I didn't like was the use of Americanisms - 'objection, your honour' and 'the defence rests.' You don't hear that in English courtrooms.
