6/13/24: yeah lol I am inclined to agree with reviewers who say the whole 'pretend to be a boy and win a competition' thing devolved very quickly into chaos and romance although I suppose that is the name of the game here. I'm not mad I still think this is a pretty good book and I like Elizabeth Lim a lot and Maia and Edan were great and the whole quest thing slapped but yeow yeah alright maybe I just can't do romance like this anymore

I love this story. It’s full of adventure and tales of magic. The romance is sweet and makes my heart ache. The characters are all amazing especially Maia who is strong but remains herself despite having to hide. The writing is artfully crafted with delicate wording and cunning references. It is one of my favorites for sure!
