Magnificent. And this seems to be the more complete and faithful translation. Next, I’m going to listen to a lecture by Andrew George on Gilgamesh.

I loved the story, especially as interpreted in a Jungian light, I loved the audiobook performance, and I loved the translation as far as I could judge it without comparing it to the original text. I’m going to read some other translations of this epic later, and then I’ll have a better perspective.

Interesting enough, though missing segments are more than a little odd to a modern reader.

This is a story about friendship and loss. The haunting nature of how the loss of loved ones is explored to a surprisingly deep extent, given how old this epic is. The narrative of mankind’s constant fight against death echos throughout time and its sentiment feels fresh, even to today. This Epic forces you to evaluate your own relationship with love, friendship, and loss. It reminds you of the ones you have already lost and the ones who are still with you. I feel like there are so many take-a-ways for this Epic but the one that struck me most is this: cherish the ones you love when you still have them. The Epic of Gilgamesh will forever be a part of me. It’s statements behind the human experience are universal and everyone will relate to them eventually.

Çok güzel bir sembolik anlatımı var.İnsanlığın bu kadar derin bilgileri bu kadar eski zamanlarda biliyor olması şaşırtıyor.

A bit repetitive and dense. Will get back to this later

Lots of this story is still missing. It’s also in poem form. I did not understand a lot of it.

I really loved this translation--the formatting choice to leave blanks where the original tablets were damaged really helped me understand the story and what we actually know about it better. I also really liked the essays at the end, they were a great addition to the book.
