One of the best books you'll ever read. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it inspired me.

I have the actual hardcover sitting on my bookshelf but when a skip the line copy of the audio version popped up on my library app I jumped at the opportunity to listen to Michelle tell her story. I am typically not fond of memoirs but this captured my attention. Some sections left me with my heart in my throat; when she described the soldier who although he was badly injured was struggling to stand to greet the wife of his commander in chief, the horror of the children struck down in the Sandy Hook mass shooting and the shooting of a young teenager who just a week before she was killed had played at President Obama's 2nd inauguration. The initiatives she started for children and the veterans and their families is inspiring. She never wanted to be in the political realm but she handled the eight years with dignity and grace. A really wonderful book.

Non fiction books I don't usually rate, but this one was very interesting. It made me realize that our leaders are human and they have flaws and make mistakes. It also made me realize that the joy/ purpose of life is to live and help people. Lastly it taught me that hard times suck, but we survive and push through. Michelle Obama is very wise and I am grateful she wrote a book.
