Lovely slow burn romance. Started a little slow (and a bit boring) but then pick up in a colorful and heartfelt tale.
Picturesque settings in vacation spots of holidays past and present, and a deep soul search in what it means to be happy and to feel “home”.

As always, impeccable Emily Henry, so well written and never shallow.

I thought this was a really, really sweet book. This is the first time I've ever read a romance, and I felt like Emily Henry did a great job of making relatable characters in a world I could easily immerse myself in. I found myself thinking about what I'd do in those situations, as well as feeling tense, conflicted, happy, sad, loved and lonely alongside the characters. If you're looking for a book that emanates emotion, this is a really solid choice. This was a great book for reflecting on different qualities in partners, what makes healthy and unhealthy relationships, and processing past emotional experiences through the lens of situations and characters in the book.

It was lovely to get to feel different perspectives when it comes to romance, and use those perspectives to reflect on my own trauma, love, and heartbreak. I'm grateful to have picked this up and gotten to laugh and hurt along with the characters. I'd like to try to read another romance book like this again. Also, (spoiler)
this book got HORNY at points and I did not expect that. I'm not sure how people can read through sections like chapter 26 in public like they're skimming the daily news. That was WILD.

Favorite quotes (mild spoilers):

"It's like I'm experiencing the whole night twice over, two versions of the same film reel playing slightly overlapped." ... "There's that Poppy, who's experiencing it all and having the most magical night of her life. And then there's the one who's already missing it, who's watching his all happen from some point in the distance, knowing I can never go back and do it all over again." (p. 311).

"And now I'm crying because reading this story makes me feel for the first time that I'm not in my body. Like there's some bubble that stretches around me and Alex and makes it so we're just two different colored globs in a lava lamp, mixing freely, dancing around each other, unhindered.

I'm crying because I'm relieved. Because I will never again feel as alone as I did during those long nights as a kid. As long has I have him, I will never be alone again." (p. 182).

I don’t know how else to say this: I absolutely loved this book. This is my third Emily Henry book and they have all been five stars. I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy this one as much since it’s friends to lovers which is NOT my favorite trope. But somehow, this was the PERFECT way to do it. I related to Poppy a lot, and Alex was definitely my type once upon a time. The yearning and longing were top notch and I was rooting hard for the couple from the jump.

Also - EmHen always makes me reevaluate my feelings about single POV vs dual POV in romance novels. Something about not knowing the other person’s inner thoughts makes the yearning that much better.
