kaiju no. 8 is unique manga with an interesting premise, but nothing outstanding in my book.

i liked the artstyle and the strong female characters, though i found the storytelling somewhat clunky. the author fit a lot of exposition and backstory into only about 200 pages, which meant the pacing was a little unbalanced, but not enough for me to fault it too much. the characters were cute, but not especially vibrant (but will obviously be developed more further into the series).

overall, not a bad first volume. honestly, i don’t really have many strong feelings on this, but i didn’t dislike it. i’ll probably continue into the next volume :)

superb introduction! u started reading and then u had no choice but to finish it. amazing artstyle, cool fighting sequences, great amount of comedy, and while i'm not a fan of pathetic-boyfailure but kafka hibino managed to pique my interest. and MINA ASHIRO??? HER CHARACTER DESIGN?????? I'M FLOORED, R U KIDDING??????? SHE'S EVERYTHING I HAVE EVER WANTED IN A FEMALE CHARACTER.
