So incredibly surprised by this book (and author). Was not at all what I expected, but in the best way. Such mature and emotional writing, loved the characters and the setting. She writes so visually, both with her characters and settings. Started a long obsession with her books I fear.
Why does the cover give so YA I fully thought this was a YA rom-com 😭

Last act unnecessarily complex and misses the opportunity for a more romantic and emotionally rewarding beat, but this is charming enough until then.

Really enjoyed this novel, I have with every one of Jenny's books so far.

I absolutely loved the revisiting of some of my favourite characters, Patrick the absolutely cheeky little monkey and Nina and her book bus.

Wonderful and the introduction of Cormac and Lissa and Kim Ange and so many more. It was fabulous.

It had a really hard hitting story line which ran through the whole book and was the reason for Lissa ending up on Scotland and Cormac in London.

It has strong points, it has weak points.
In some places it drags too much while in others, it's too fast.

I have to say, I find it very difficult to give this book a good rating.

It was enjoyable, the descriptions are definitely the author's strong side.
What I couldn't really appreciate, was that part 1 dragged on for too long.

Cormac's behaviour from time to time is a bit too 'much'. The doodles are not something a grown man does, I don't think. I didn't find that a very charming trait. One time he acts normal, the next he's no better than a teenager. The consistency was too far away.
And that's a shame, because Lissa has been very consistent from beginning to the end.

It's not like these two people got much, if any, time together. Because the end was so rushed.

I only expected a cozy lighthearted read but I got so much more. I like how this book tied the whole series together. I fell hard for the characters, they felt so very real and they felt like normal people. I thought Colgan balanced the tougher subjects with more lighthearted moments very well. I was genuinely surprised by how much this book moved me. When I read books by Colgan I always expect some kind of romance, but for a long time I was unsure if this book would have that or which characters would get involved.

Another sweet and touching novel by Jenny Colgan. This one feels a bit more aware of the realities of society today than some of her others while still managing to hold on to the dreamy fantasy of small town living that make her books so wonderful. We get to see some old friends from other books, including Nina, Zoe, Lennox, and get an update on all the Kirrinfief characters as well as meet some wonderful new additions (Kim-Ange). Additionally, the male love interest is much kinder and more likeable than her's usually are. This title features the formula Colgan readers have come to know (woman endures trauma/burnout, starts a new life in remote town, doesn't like it at first then makes friends, finds love interest, professional succces, comes to love the natural beauty of the land) but with some updates- the few things I've had issues with in her previous books were not present here. It works and if you've liked her other books you'll love this, too.

I received a free ARC of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
