Really don't know what all the fuss was about. So the man drinks a lot and works in a post office. There's no insight and I didn't form any sort of attachment. He was quite funny, seemed to have some principals about working hard for the post office for some reason. Doesn't like women much. Much prefer Irvine Welsh, books like Filth and Training spotting feature characters in the 'underclass' but with formed values and philosophies. There's also a story. Disappointed.

Pretty fun. Bukowksi/Chinaski is unafraid to share what many people (men, I guess) would think but never say. He is obsessed with tits and asses (sic). He's a bit of an arsehole so the times that he genuinely cares about people (though it's mostly animals) are almost surprising.
Not the best story, or the most well-written book ever, but often funny and fairly enjoyable if you like the rantings of a drunk, womanising misanthrope.
As a trigger warning, there is a brief rape scene which made me very uncomfortable.

I don’t know what to think of this man. I would lie if I said I don’t find him entertaining. I have not read one of his books in many years and this came my way so I went for it. The sexism, misanthropy, bigotry, toxic macho bullshit is as annoying as ever. But I cannot deny that there is something to his writing. He can be funny and the story somehow is gripping without ever saying much.
