I received an ARC of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Capulets and the Montagues have nothing on the families in this small Alaskan town...

Taylor Lipin goes back to her hometown of Helen, Alaska strictly for holidays only. Not only is it expensive and time-consuming to leave LA and the marketing job she has there, but she hates that she is Helen "royalty" for the worst reason possible: the feud between the Lipins and the Porters. But when Taylor's sister begs her to come and help her run the family inn in the wake of family drama, Taylor can't refuse.

Dr. Josh Krane is settling in nicely in Helen; he likes the small town, and being around his mother's family is... interesting. An Air Force brat, Josh only rarely got to visit his Porter relatives, and thought his mother was exaggerating when she told him stories about the war between the Porters and the Lipins. But the intensity of hatred--and the lengths they're willing to go in that hatred--aren't the only surprise. Josh's cousin gifted him three huskies, and his life quickly revolves around them. So when his dogs lead him to a gorgeous woman, he takes it as a sign to ask her out.

It's pretty much love at first sight; they share similar tastes, they get along great, they adore Josh's huskies, and all is well...

Until they figure out that they are, literally, sleeping with the enemy. And quickly agree on one thing: they don't care. Unfortunately, everyone else does. Are Taylor and Josh doomed lovers? Or can they defy the odds, the expectations, the pressure, and the increasing amount of sabotage?

A wonderful start of a series, set in a vibrant, picturesque Alaskan town, full of drama, beautiful huskies, more drama, and an unforgettable story!

I really enjoyed this book. I’m a huge sucker for a small town family romance series. I love the Alaskan vibe, the cats and dogs clash, and family rivalries. This whole set up works for me. Also it’s a very sweetly written book which is rare. I almost wish I hadn’t even picked it up until the series was done because I need to know what’s gonna happen with the rest of the characters.

The swoon-worthy romance, the crazy over-the-top family drama, the adorable huskies all contribute to a time well spent.

The last thing Taylor Lipin wanted to do was return home to Helen, Alaska. She had worked hard to get out from under the never-ending feud her family has going on with the Porter family. But she can't leave her sister in the lurch with their inn after her mother packed up and left suddenly. Dr. Josh Krane is a part of the Porter family. He's aware of the long-standing feud, but he doesn't consider himself a part of it.

Josh and Taylor met when one of Josh's adorable husky's tried to run her over. They had no clue they were fraternizing with the enemy, as it were, and by the time they figured it out, cupid's arrow had already met his mark.

I really loved how Josh and Taylor just ignored all the warnings and threats from their families and pushed forward with their relationship. And boy, those two families pulled out all the stops to keep them apart.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. There were moments of great frustration and plenty of awwww moments. And it all comes together well. The writing kept my interest and the plot moved along nicely. The characters were filled out nicely and most of them experienced some kind of learning experience by the end of the story.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Porters and the Lipins are meant to resemble a bit of that Montague and Capulet rivalry beloved by fans of Romeo and Juliet for years, but that is about where the similarities end here - sorry Shakespeare.

This first-book-in-a-new-romance-series was too cute! The cover first caught my attention for obvious (adorable) reasons, but I also liked the characters a lot. I always find it fun when a character meets another and we, the reader, know who that person is but the character doesn't know. That journey towards the oooh guess what's going to happen is super fun ;) The small-town Alaskan setting was fun to read about, and Josh and Taylor had great chemistry on the pages. This was a quick and enjoyable read and I can't wait to continue the series.

Thank you so much to Berkley Publishers, Netgalley, and Edelweiss for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"Heart on a Leash" is like a modern-day "Romeo & Juliet" with dogs and no untimely deaths. Taylor and Josh are on opposite sides of a decades-old feud in their small Alaskan town. The feud and the foolishness did get a little old, and I'm hoping a better explanation for adults acting this way comes along in book two.

The rest of the story is cute. The human characters are interesting, and the animal characters are delightful. I'll definitely enjoy seeing more of all of them in the next two books. The love story was a little on the insta-love side, but I still liked it. Definitely read this book if you like small-town romances.
