One of my favorites from this author.

Eh.. it was okay. It tried to steer away from your typical thriller but failed. Everything was predictable and every character had a dark past to explain why they are the way they are. Nothing had me at the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. It was okay, not great.

Once I read the acknowledgements at the back of the book and saw that this book was actually written in the early 1990's, I gave it an extra star. The book is really not up to this author's standards, but I understand it's an early work that he re-worked and just released so it gets a star for a good story, written in the style of a young, new author.

I received an advance copy of this book through Netgalley. I appreciate the opportunity from Netgalley and Robert Dugoni to read and review this book.

The 7th Canon by Robert Dugoni begins when Father Martin is accused of killing a young boy from his shelter. However, this is just the beginning of Father Martin's troubles. Bring in one very hot-headed cop and things just get worse. Father Martin eventually hires Peter Donley to be his defense against his murder charge. Donley sacrifices his family and life in order to prove that Father Martin is not a cold blooded killer. How far will one attorney go to stand up for his client and find out who actually killed this young boy? Will he end up losing his own life in the pursuit of justice?

I really enjoyed this novel. This is the first book I have read that was written by Robert Dugoni and I will certainly be reading more of his books. This was a very satisfying read and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I will be recommending this book to friends, family, and anyone else who is interested in an edge of your seat thriller.

The mid-80s in San Francisco, a wet-behind-the-ears attorney, dirty politicians, the Catholic Church, and a racist homophobic cop come together for a modern film noir. And while the action even begins on a dark and stormy night, there is nothing trite about how the story plays out. In fact, the book could even be viewed as a coming of age story for the newbie attorney, Donley, who sees himself in the young homeless victims and puts himself in danger as he tries to come to terms with his own past. Well crafted, detailed and rich, The 7th Canon makes for great reading!

A preview copy of this book was provided by NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer in exchange for an honest review.

I love it when I find an author whose books I can't wait to read. The 7th Canon is the first book by Robert Dugoni that I have read and all of his other books are now on my 'To Be Read' List. Anyone who enjoys legal thrillers by John Grisham and John Lescroart will be enthralled by The 7th Canon. It is a well written, fast paced novel with strong and interesting characters. Highly recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC.

Well, that did it. Now I'm fan of this author's work. I think this is my third book by Dugoni, but this one is quite possibly my favorite. It's intricate, involved and not predictable. A murder in older style Chicago, a boy living in a flophouse is dead, and a priest with a questionable past are the opening focus of this book.

From there it just goes on a fast paced race through the pages as you follow Peter Donley, a lawyer as he fights for Father Martin's freedom and justice.

My copy came from Net Galley. I wasn't required to leave a review, I wanted to, so I did. My thoughts and opinions are my very own.

That.

Was a spectacular read.

My first Dugoni. How is that even possible?
