I didn't love this book. But I didn't hate it. But I also didn't really LIKE it.
Dual timeline book was a neat way to go about the storyline, but I felt like it dragged on and on so... A lot of it was relevant to 2020. I think we're all a little (a lot?) addicted to our technology and for that reason I enjoyed a bit of the book. But the Constellation Network portion was way overdone for me and didn't really add much to the story.

This is such a timely novel with a great premise -- about how social media influencers are made and maintained, how social media could be in the future, and how it would be different if it were controlled by the government.
I love books that speculate on our future by making one change, and this book does that. What if the internet were hacked and the government took it over?
The book follows Orla, a blog type reporter, and her roommate Floss, who becomes a social media influencer in the present. It also follows Marlow in the near future who lives live-streamed in a constructed town in California.
I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the present and the future in this book and the exploration of the "what ifs". I also liked how the story lines converged. However, something was a bit off for me. Perhaps it was because, although I found the characters fine, I had a hard time actually liking any of them. I'm not quite sure. Maybe it was the pacing of the book. However, I did find it thought provoking and find myself thinking about it still.
Thank you to Netgalley and Graydon House Books for the review copy.
This book felt like an episode of Black Mirror, so if you’re into that and dystopian type books, it’s worth checking out.

Was a good book in the grand scheme of things but dont think it was my sort of genre/ it was quite a slow moving book. Can’t say I didnt enjoy it as an intriguing topic though
Think TRUMAN SHOW meets today’s influencer culture, but ratchet it up to a strange dystopia where people have devices implanted and babies designed for the pleasure of their followers. Split into two narratives, contemporary and not so distant future, FOLLOWERS says the quiet part out loud about our reliance on technology and the fallibility of the human experience with two very different but enjoyable main characters. I was obsessed from beginning to end.
At first this audiobook was annoying me. I found reading about social influencers a little much, but as the book went along I became more and more intrigued. The characters grow on you and the idea of where our technology could head was fascinating.
I couldn't put this book down. I love that some of the twists and surprises weren't drawn out for drama. They were revealed early and weren't shocking to see coming, but I was still SO interested in how it got that way and everything in between. I randomly picked this book without knowing much about it and I'm so glad I took a chance on it!
