I think I've solved the mystery of why there are some books where I can read like 2-5 pages and immediately be like "no" and it is books written in present tense! Especially historical fiction.

really enjoyed this book, loved the development of the characters and the "reversal of the muse" effect -- giving each of them the agency and the ones to be inspired to action by the artist. But it also felt a little bit tame, or innocent. I'm not a big fan of written sex scenes, but when this is about the muses who inspired the 'pornographer of vienna' and people who pushed boundaries, it felt like the author was afraid to go there, and wanted to desexualise each of them...
