It's difficult to criticize these books, because there is no one else can blend the hard boiled detective genre with urban fantasy. From the world building to the action to the unraveling mystery these books always make me smile. My only gripe is that Harry's sexism can get a little grating at times. It's a thematic flaw for a PI to have but I got tired of hearing of the paragraphs describing how beautiful all of the women he met were, and how he wanted to have sex with them all pretty quickly.
Other than that, if you want an urban fantasy with great world building, characters and plots the Dresden files is the best around.
