Gripping and harrowing...

4.5. Informative and entertaining.

There is a very raw honesty in this personal tale of cases along the way to becoming a neuro surgeon. It is hailed as neither a pleasant career nor a glamorous one. We live the author's peaks and troughs with him including his depression.
It is well formed insofar as the narrative assumes intelligence from his reader, yet curious and horrifying. Cutting into and trying to fix the brain is never going to be an easy read. A very human look at the band of brothers (largely men) and their extraordinary yet routine work in neuroscience.

Some of these chapters were just devestating.
informative slow-paced

I always find the brain fascinating. This memoir of a neurosurgeon was interesting but not my “favorite ever” medical memoir. Some parts got a bit sloggish. The patient stories were the best part.
