It was very well read (I listened to the audiobook) but I felt like this book struggled to find a lane. One chapter, we're listening to Sue detail her parents' deaths (very hard to listen to), another chapter she's walking us through different types of dismemberment. Sometimes it was memoir, sometimes true crime, sometimes extremely minute anatomy. Now, this can work and I liked some parts a fair bit. Black has an excellent sense of humour and all parts of this story are hers so this is definitely a personal opinion on how I felt, not a comment on her writing. However, I never knew when parts of this book would be very upsetting, or when other parts would drag on. I'd rather it have been split out, almost; the flow didn't work for me and it could have been two books instead, with those tones separated.

Although written in a lighthearted way, the book deals with complex teams and notions such as death, euthanasia and the identification of bodies.
