I liked learning about the Amish community… the story was interesting but I was expecting a bit more - especially from this author.

I stayed up last night to finish this one. Having had only marginal knowledge of Amish culture from living nearby Amish country, I was intrigued to read this Picoult novel. As always, Picoult writes with sensitivity to each character's perspective. I truly appreciated the humanity she brought to the characters, regardless of their background. For me, this is one of the better Picoult novels because of the relationship development and interaction between the characters.
Jodi Picoult; when she writes a book, you know it’ll be a page-turner. The quality of content though isn’t always the same standard. I’ve read some of her books that have absolutely blown my mind, but then there are others that just feel like I’m on a cheap emotional ride. This is one of those books that keep you turning the page, but halfway through you start figuring some things out, and they just come off as plot twists that weren’t very well thought out. For example the whole aspect of Katie’s defense of her being Amish and therefore incapable of such selfishness, is completely thwarted by the mother’s revelation.
One of the reasons I love Picoult's writing is her ability to get in your mind, stir your emotions, and question "What would I do?" Plain Truth was no exception. It drew me in from page one: the characters were so alive and the plot was believable, genuine. A must read for lovers of dramas and psychological narratives alike.

A really good sweet story. I didn't even mind not knowing what had happened with Katie's baby which is funny because that is what had me turning page after page in the beginning. Then in the end I was surprised to know the truth...even if I wasn't expecting it! I had suspected everyone else.
Well, it wasn't the last page this time...it was the second to last page where the surprise slapped me upside the head! I LOVE that, Jodi Picoult! Love it!!! Great story. Great, very real characters, and I just adore the elements of surprise. Wonderful read.
Jodi Picoult's books are always pageturners and it was fascinating to read about the Amish community. This one had some plot holes though and a predictable ending.
