DNF at 30%. Wasn't actually interested in the story or invested in the characters. Just kind of wanted to know who the killer was not actually interested in the rest of the story.

This book was definitely a page turner, but I do feel like it was a bit too long. Interesting read, would recommend it, just wish it cut some things out.

Read this awhile ago so don't remember all the details. There's an odd sequence with hallucinations that stands out the most to me as being an odd component of the plot.

n Jodi Picoult's novel "Plain Truth," readers are taken on a journey into the heart of an Amish community, where a young woman stands accused of murdering her newborn child. Through the eyes of Ellie Hathaway, a lawyer from the outside world, we are immersed in the unique and often misunderstood world of the Amish.

One of the strengths of Picoult's writing is her ability to create realistic and relatable characters. In "Plain Truth," she introduces us to Katie, a young Amish woman who finds herself at the center of a murder trial. As Ellie delves deeper into the case, she forms a bond with Katie, and we witness the complexities of their relationship unfold. Picoult's portrayal of Katie is nuanced and sympathetic, allowing readers to understand the pressures and challenges she faces within her community.

Equally compelling is Ellie's character development throughout the novel. As an outsider to the Amish way of life, Ellie is initially skeptical and judgmental. However, as she spends more time in the community, she begins to question her own beliefs and values. This internal struggle adds depth to the story, as Ellie grapples with her own identity and desires.

Picoult's exploration of the Amish community is another highlight of "Plain Truth." Through meticulous research and attention to detail, she paints a vivid picture of their customs, traditions, and way of life. From their simple dress to their reliance on horse and buggy, Picoult captures the essence of the Amish with authenticity and respect. This portrayal allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of their beliefs and challenges the stereotypes often associated with this community.

The plot of "Plain Truth" is both gripping and thought-provoking. As Ellie investigates the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder, she uncovers secrets and hidden truths that challenge her assumptions. The tension builds as the trial approaches, and I was kept on the edge of my seat, eager to discover the truth. Picoult skillfully weaves together multiple perspectives and storylines, creating a narrative that is both engaging and emotionally resonant.

One of the central themes in "Plain Truth" is the clash between tradition and modernity. The Amish community represents a way of life rooted in centuries-old customs and beliefs, while Ellie embodies the fast-paced, technology-driven world of the outside. Through their interactions and conflicts, Picoult explores the complexities of navigating these two worlds and the sacrifices that come with choosing one over the other.

In addition to the exploration of tradition and modernity, "Plain Truth" also delves into themes of motherhood, identity, and the pursuit of truth. These universal themes resonate with me, Picoult's ability to tackle these complex issues with sensitivity and nuance is a testament to her skill as a writer.

Overall, "Plain Truth" is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that delves into the complexities of the Amish community and the human experience. Jodi Picoult's ability to create realistic characters, explore controversial topics, and weave together multiple storylines is on full display in this book. Whether you are a fan of Picoult's work or new to her writing, "Plain Truth" is a captivating read that will leave you questioning your own beliefs and values.

Really good book. I loved the storyline. Complex plot and with the extra twist of being about a culture and people that I don't know much about. Very well done!
