Enjoyed the setting, but not much else.

Typical entry in the Picoult universe - complete with a proven formula -- family crisis, questionable legal actions, and a twisty ending. The author does her usual thorough job with researching the details -- here in describing Amish life. Whether or not it's accurate, it is especially relevant to the plot of the young girl who has given birth in a barn, and is arrested for murder. I enjoyed the book --- mostly --- and like anyone who has read a Picoult novel, was waiting for the twist at the end, and wondered about the legality of some of the court proceedings.

Spoiler-ish note -- I had a feeling that it would be similar to Scott Turow's Presumed Innocent plot twist, and was not surprised.

This book was definitely a page-turner. I had a really hard time putting it down. However, I give it three stars because I had guessed whodunit pretty early on, so I felt that it was a bit predictable and I didn't particularly like the ending. Overall, a very interesting and entertaining book.

Hmm. It was good, but definately not Picoult's finest works. It ended so abrubtly, and I got tired of Katie changing her story over and over again. I did like the setting, though, and the little side stories. It was cool, I guess.

Good book. Easy read.

Murder/lawyer mystery in Amish country. Middle of the road for Ms. Picoult - she's written much better - but I did love the way the Amish were 3 dimensional and not caricatures.

Had to read it - i remember watching the movie several times (probably on Lifetime) in my teens, and remember it had an impact. But the book is a mess.

This book certainly held my attention. The one thing I can say about Jodi Picoult is that she certainly researches her subject matter thoroughly. I enjoyed this book because it showcased an Amish community, which is not a topic of many books I've read. Some of the parts of the story felt forced, but for the most part I enjoyed the book and it kept me intrigued. One of the books I've enjoyed the most from Jodi Picoult.

Mmmm 3.5 maybe

My first Picoult book. I loved it because it was so different from any other book I had ever read. I was enthralled!
