I really liked it throughout but so disappointed at the ending!

So disappointing. The ending of this book absolutely ruined the rest of it for me. What a shame.

When Ellie Hathaway decides to defend an unmarried Amish woman against the charge of the murder of her own child, the urban-savvy defence attorney finds herself caught in a clash of cultures with people whose channels of justice are markedly different from her own.

This was another impactful courtroom drama from the amazing Jodi Picoult. With this kind of setting, I always wonder how accurate the portrayal is - I hope Jodi’s research on the Amish community was thorough and they were represented accurately in this book.

I loved the dynamics between Ellie and Katie - they did this ‘dance’ with each other to assess their differences and similarities, and it was obvious that they moved from being strangers to focusing on their commonalities and becoming friends. Katie’s relationship with her mum was also heartwarming, albeit lacking verbal communication. Sarah had this amazing act of service, being attuned to what her family needed and provided for them quietly.

The trials highlighted that the government systems in general had been built based on a set of beliefs and principles which didn’t necessarily work for everyone. Mystery-wise, I managed to guess what had happened around the 70% mark but I was very satisfied with the conclusion.

This was another winner from Jodi Picoult which made me think and feel.

I like reading Jodi Picoult's books. This one was good, but a little predictable.
