Really enjoyed this book. I like reading about different cultures/religions and I feel I learned a lot about the Amish and Plain folk. The story was well written and each time I had to put it down, I was dying to get back to it! So much more enjoyable than My Sister's Keeper, despite all its acclaim. 4.5 stars.

I thoroughly enjoyed Picoult’s writing and character/plot development. It really placed me into the story. The main characters were complex and challenging. The ultimate storyline kept me engaged and thinking all throughout.
The two things that keep it from being more highly rated for me was that the pace was slow and the final reveal at the end was entirely unnecessary and kind of ruined the intrigue of the book for me. It was definitely something that didn’t need answering and I think would have been better kept for the readers to answer on their own without handholding from the author.

Plot twist at the end isn’t really a plot twist. Some plot inconsistencies and plot points that should have been explored more but wasn’t. Overall liked the book until the ending- too out of character for one of the characters, somewhat predictable, and trial was built up too much for as neat of bow the author had the trial outcome be.
