A heartwarming tale of a band of adventurers, this definitely falls within the "cozy fantasy" subgenre even if racism and xenophobia are major themes (they cause conflict, but the overall tension level in the story remains relatively low). The other major themes—happier ones—are of found family, community, and finding yourself. My favorite part was that one of the "adventurers" is just a baker, non-magical, and not even particularly good at baking, but she gets some great lines. I am going to remember the scene where she stands up to the philosophical troll for a long time!

It was cute but I think it’s a middle grade book? There’s a “reading guide” with discussion questions in the back. A great book for that age range, but I can’t say it was especially moving or transformative for an adult. Very cute, with some interesting takes! And I really really loved the queer and immigrant representation. But my time is up at the library and I dont think I’ll be re-requesting it

This is the warm hug of a book I needed this year.
A great book to follow up "You weren't meant to be human". I really needed something light. This book was that but also had enough substance to not fell like i was wasting my time.

Fell in love with this book from the first chapter and only fell deeper the more I read. A wonderful tale of found family, reconciling your history, and discovering yourself along the way.
