For better or for worse, my first Austen is her last novel, which likely lessens the impact of the narrative experiments she introduced - particularly her use of free-indirect speech. That being said, her composition is truly all it is hyped up to be, intersecting class, gender, and etiquette to craft a love story full of subtlety and tension. Fun class read.

I believe you equal to every important exertion, and to every domestic forbearance, so long as—if I may be allowed the expression—so long as you have an object. I mean while the woman you love lives, and lives for you. All the privilege I claim for my own sex (it is not a very enviable one; you need not covet it), is that of loving longest, when existence or when hope is gone.

I think this is the quickest I have ever read a classic novel before. I really enjoyed this book! Anne's character was enjoyable and quite relatable - I was rooting for her the whole time. Wentworth was captivating and I enjoyed how they both explored other love interests, but always knew their hearts were set for one another. The second chance romance kind of trope really pulled me in and made me want to read the novel as I feel it's not something you see a lot in classic literature. I have to say that I think this is my favourite of Jane Austen's novels that I have read so far (pride and prejudice, Emma and persuasion). Overall, I'm not one to overly enjoy classic novels (though I read them), but this one I certainly did enjoy.

The flow of emotion and opinion is so satisfying in this story. Its easy to make a missed match story frustrating due to characters making dumb decisions but that is not the case for this story!
