A wonderful, creepy horror novel about the fury of a woman pent up and held down by men who mean to wring every last drop of her into their hungry throats before tossing away whatever’s left.

I was thoroughly engrossed in the story even before it became explicitly supernatural, to the point that the witchy supernatural elements surprised me, despite knowing the premise of the book going in.

I will admit that even though I did love this read, the journal entry concept eventually became ridiculous. It was believable and understandable at the start where it’s more slice of life, but by the last entry, it becomes clear that the author committed to the concept before grasping how the book would end… which would really work much better as a non-journal entry.

I found the pacing of this book to be extremely slow, which made it very difficult to stay engaged. I also hated the diary format and the constant reminders that it was a diary felt too self-aware.

The writing style came across as pretentious and overly elaborate. The dense passages on every page made it hard to stay immersed in the story. It honestly felt more like reading an encyclopedia than a novel.

I was also uncomfortable with the way multiple instances of sexual assault felt romanticized. The book literally ends with a scene very reminiscent of sexual assault.

it’s a slow cooker folks, and a bit cheesy at times but enticing nonetheless
