It is so refreshing to go from my last few books that have left me a bit disappointed to this one. I love grey dog so much I don't even know what to do with myself. If it wasn't cold outside I might run naked into the woods in sympathy for Ada. I can't wait for more by Elliott Gish, this one was truly stunning.

This is a horror story of a spinster woman who takes a teaching job in a remote part of Canada after a troubled past and repressive father. The theme of the book is religious fundamentalism versus nature. The main character begins to hear noises and voices in the woods, and slowly learns there have been many victims of this malignant force that lives in the woods. I read this book in about two days because the story was so compelling.

Ugh!!!! This frustrated me!!! I really really loved this, but the end and the “grey dog” aspect just felt so rushed and unfinished that it ruined the whole thing.

This was full of female rage I was hooked. I was creeped out and uncomfortable but literally NEEDED to know what was coming next. I literally could not predict anything that could have happened in the book. This was strange done right and I’m so glad that I read this. From now on, I will be sprinting into my house after I get off work at 9pm to avoid looking at the woods… I’m so for real right now.

“Wisdom. War. We are beyond such things. We are teeth and skin, spit and hair, bones and blood.”

i did enjoy this but something about it left me wanting. despite being a shocking scene the ending still somehow seemed anticlimactic??? idk i was getting excited to see how the grey dog was depicted - hoping for horror monster fucker vibes honestly - and i was a little disappointed!

this really put me in mind of Machen’s The Great God Pan, I would be very surprised if it wasn’t an inspiration. despite my problems with the story I do think it is a very good effort for a debut.

also why would you leave a hot widow at the end? take the lesbian card away from ada clearly
