This was very well written and the story was intriguing, but it almost felt like two different stories. It was a really well done historical fiction for 3/4 of the book, and then the creepy horror didn't start until the very last hundred pages (for me at least). The creepy horror was also well done, but I wish it had either been sprinkled more generously throughout the book, or that this had been a much shorter book. This is something that would've worked really well as a novella.

an interesting read, it lost me a bit more as i went on towards the end of it. not sure if it needed some of the graphic detailing it had when some difficult/unnecessary content was discussed. overall i really enjoyed the writing and the slow pace horror, not so much the additional embellishments or lack of side character building. check content warnings before reading
