This was wild - definitely check your trigger warnings. Told in 2 teenage girls perspectives between then and now, about their captivity in a basement and life after getting out. Heartbreaking and terrifying, but couldn't put this down!
medium-paced
"He has an appetite for innocence and a very short attention span. It’s not a good combination."
My first Lucinda Berry book and man was it deep, dark and raw. I devoured this book in a day because I needed to know what happened next, I just couldn't put it down. This book tackles alot of heavy subject matter such as PTSD, sexual abuse, pedophilia, Stockholm syndrome, drug abuse, child abuse and murder. I was honestly disgusted, captivated, angry and heart broken at the same time. I really felt every raw emotion of each of these characters who had their innocence ripped away from them by a sick, sadistic man. Truly one of the most horrifying books I've ever read but worth the read.

Overall 3.75 stars. The book jumps back and forth between the present and past with two POVs, one of Sarah and one of Ella. The POVs in the past were good, but not great. The really good parts were in the present POVs. I enjoyed that they portrayed both girls so differently, even though they went through similar experiences. However, I really enjoyed the concept of The Butterfly Garden, and I felt like this book was a not-as-good rip off.

A brutal kidnapping story that leads into life afterwards for the victims. Some interesting stuff on Stockholm Syndrome but overall this thriller wasn't thrilling enough for me.
