Literally speechless…Lucinda Berry is an incredible writer. Dark topics and definitely not for everyone but she sure has a way of telling the most captivating stories
Minority Report here—this is just another Stockholm Syndrome story with virgins in the basement à la ‘Room’ style. I mistakenly assumed the author or publishing house would do some kind of audition for the audio book narrators (two of them, alternating between two different characters): one of them sounded robotic, as if Amazon’s Alexa was reading sentence by sentence without emotion; the other had too much emotion since it sounded like she was on the brink of tears the whole book, EVEN IN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT section after the book ended. I respect their craft and accolades, but their narration is what probably ruined the book for me.
I’ll give it to Lucinda, she knows how to make you hate humanity just a teeny bit more. Super disturbing book content-wish, but interesting from a psychological perspective.
