Right from the beginner this book pulls you in and Larke races to save her father not knowing what else or who else she might run into. Locke is one of my classic favorites, broody and dark but really a big ole softie on the inside. Larke is a bad ass fmc who doesn’t need no man but can’t resist Locke’s charm. The banter between the two is just *exquisite*. And while I would have enjoyed a little more lead up before the initial switch from enemies to lovers but it was definitely made up for by the rest of their development as a couple. Looking forward to the next book already!!!!

I absolutely loved the way the author used the Zodiac signs and the magic system for the magical side of things, it’s one of the first books I’ve read that had that. I found that really interesting.
I want to be friends with Lark. She’s a badass, strong fmc that isn’t afraid to get stuff done.
Locke he’s witty, clever and the banter between him and Lark was funny.

If you like: prophecies, curses, dark magic, shadow daddy MMC, "touch her and die" vibes and elemental magic, then this is a good book for you. I enjoyed the Zodiac power system, and all the characters, even if Lark & Locke both frustrated me at certain points (which was probably the point so we could feel their frustration with each other). I was absolutely invested in these characters, and even the side characters. There is one particular chapter where some of Lark's past trauma is described and its influence on how she currently navigates relationships that really hit me hard. The author did are a really good job of showing the reader why she is the way she is.
This was somewhat of a slow burn, although not in the traditional way, while definitely having a good amount of tension between Lark & Locke. This book is not incredibly spicy although there are open door scenes. I am definitely looking forward to the second book and seeing what the Knights of the Rebel Court are able to learn about dark magic and the curses produced by it.

Y’all to say I ate this book up and left zero crumbs would be an understatement….literally consumed all the way through the last line! This is a new book fav and new author fav! It’s got slow burn, forced proximity, magic, curses, turmoil, intrigue, some world building, smart, snarky, heart of gold, will of steel FMC, flirtatious, cunning powerful, touch her and
This story had a lot of the things I like in a fantasy novel - fae, magic, prophecies, romance - I enjoyed it!
Lark was a healer with no magic, in a town where magic was commonplace and she was the odd one out. Heading off to find an item to help cure her father's illness she witnesses something she shouldn't have, and meets someone who is legend in her world. Someone she should be afraid of, if rumours are true, but can't help but be drawn to.
I did like Lark as a character, though miscommunication is not my favourite trope. I really wish people would just ask/answer questions, and not jump to conclusions. The secondary characters were fun, I liked them, as well as Locke.
I enjoyed the way the story unfolded, I was sucked in from page 1. Now, that ending? Definitely need to know what happens next!

Amazing debut novel by this Canadian! It's hard to put out a fantasy novel that can live up to the big ones out there like ACOTAR. I think she did it! Love the story, the enemies to lovers and the magic system! Can't wait to read what's next for Lark and Locke.
