I’m going to be a bitch for a minute. I spent the first half of this book debating if I should DNF it and the second half trying to rush through it. The only part that was cute/interesting was the last 50idh pages
starting where they look for Lainey.

The author also writes her dialogue so weird where every conversation feels bland and lacking any emotional good or bad. I’d believe it if someone told me this was her first novel.

The characters feel underdeveloped and honestly kinda annoying. Hannah felt so boring and irrelevant. It was painfully obvious that Tyson was written by a white woman. Any talk of being a black man and dealing with racism was so surface level and poorly written. So much of the story was about Tyson yet his character felt like there was nothing to it. Lainey was just annoying yet the only character making the story interesting. And then there’s Summer… sorry but
I’m not going to give a fuck about a suicide ten pages in. This book is literally named after Summer yet we barely “met” her. Her death felt unimportant because the reader barely learns anything about her. Sorry

We read almost nothing about the friendship in its beginning, aka all of college, so it’s hard to feel like it’s an important friendship.

There was no chemistry between Tyson and Lainey and honestly, Olivia and Hannah’s start felt weird. They all also felt like 22 year olds and not in their late 20s - 30s.

Tyson and Lainey’s relationship was the weirdest considering there was absolutely nothing hinting towards and attraction and then all of the sudden, they are naked in the shower together????

Hannah becoming gay was the only thing that made her interesting in this story.

This book was a waste of time and I’ll never pick up an Emily Giffin book again.  I’m only giving it two stars because it was interesting just enough to not be DNFd.
