This was a good story that I enjoyed although the ending was definitely rushed and abrupt. It felt like she hit her word count so she real quick wrapped it up and sent it on with a bow. I did like all the aspects of dealing with grief in different ways as well as how different people can view the same person. I also enjoyed the various ways of finding yourself that were explored within each character. My other main criticism is that even by the end Summer was still this idealized person from their past. At no point throughout the novel did anyone even think about pointing out any potential flaws of Summer. I appreciate that her death was kept a mystery because sometimes people leave or die and you don’t get that closure or knowledge of why and in the end the why doesn’t have the effect on grief that we think it will. In contrast, no one is perfect, including Summer. The trio held her on this pedestal and I wonder if everyone else in her life did too which likely influenced her suicide but now we’re just exploring theories that aren’t mentioned in the slightest nor are they supposed to be the takeaway of this book. As a whole I did enjoy the story and getting to know the characters as they developed along their journeys. I would also definitely watch this if it was a movie but I don’t think I’d trust it to be made as well as I imagine.

Not my favorite of her books, but a good summer read with good some heavy topics of grief. The descriptions of Capri were good!

It was fine. It felt predictable for the most part. It felt like a YA book with adult triggers. Just was unbalanced

A sad summer read about a group of college friends who form a friendship pact after a member of their circle commits suicide. It’s 10 years since the incident and the friends come together as they all have some heavy stuff to get through.
TW: suicide, alcoholism, & SA.
I didn’t like how Giffen glossed over these things with what seems like a shoulder shrug. One character had some serious issues.
