About halfway through I was wondering why this was considered a romance (from my library) then the relationships came, in my opinion, out of nowhere and I really disliked the second half of the book. I would have preferred the focus to remain on the friendship, rather than the random romances thrown in.

3 college friends have to figure out life without their 4th friend.
DNF after about 100 pages of nonsense. I usually like this author but this one was so poorly written that I couldn’t force myself to finish it. Flat characters, littered with choppy dialogue and unrealistic events, this book was an all around disappointment.
My first DNF of the year. What happened to Emily giffin? This felt like a high schooler wrote it
Warning: this book may be a trigger for people due to several of its themes, particularly suicide.
After the suicide of one of their best college friends, three friends, Lainey, Hannah, and Tyson, draw up a pact to promise that no matter how dark things may seem to them, they will contact each other. Years later, when Hannah walks in on her fiancé in bed with another woman, she calls her best friends, and they drop everything and come. What comes next is an extended road trip while they discover what they really mean to each other and who they really are.
This is not my favorite Emily Griffin book at all and I found it a bit of a slog to get through. Sometimes I was confused by the shift in POV of the three characters (who seemed rather similar) and I thought it was kind of unlikely that a pact made in college would make people years later disrupt their real lives. But of course, it’s fiction!
Many thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel. My opinion is my own.

3.5 stars! I sped through this one!! This is a story of three friends who overcome a lot of shared grief and trauma early on in the book and the story takes place 10 years after. I like the multiple povs but did feel like the story would just melt from one character to another I wished there was a bit more distinction. This was a light plot, there was a bit event in the beginning and things happen in the end but I wanted a bit more from the story. I did love how the group of friends stayed so close for a decade and really had each other back and wanted the best for each other. The descriptions of the places they traveled were great. There’s talk of death, suicide, grief and alcoholism throughout the book. Would recommend as an easy, quick read especially on the beach!
Review
The Summer Pact : Emily Giffin
Format: ebook (NetGalley)
Publisher: Random House Publishing Group- Ballantine Books
Publication Date:July 9, 2024
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
After tragedy strikes a group of friends in college, the 3 remaining friends make a pact to always be there for each other during hard times. The book follows these 3 friends a decade later when their lives completely change and they decide to take a spontaneous vacation. The book is filled with romance, sadness, and friendship. This book is all about finding your true self. It changes narration between each of the 3 friends giving the reader a chance get to know each character equally. This book also touches on some darker topics such as suicide and addiction.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, but I thought it ended way too abruptly. I wanted more of an ending for all of the characters that were built.
Thank you to Random House Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC!
