This book is just… I have no words for the way this book took me back to memories of playing fútbol as a little girl in Colombia & the emotions that came with it. Although the books takes place in Argentina, the descriptions of the houses, streets, views, vendors, children asking for help/donations in buses & other things felt soooo much like being taken back home to Colombia. These are truly things that you couldn’t explain to someone who hadn’t experienced them first hand.

No book has ever made me feel so close to home while breaking my heart apart with the reminders of all the ugly parts mi tierra has. Some of the topics addressed in this book are very hard but they’re SO real! I’ve felt the exact things this book touches on & it only makes it that much more heartfelt.

I try to be a big supporter of Latina/Latino authors & honestly this book was one of the most heartbreaking positive surprises I’ve had with books as I hadn’t seen or heard anything about it before picking it up. This story will live in my heart forever, truly.

I’d recommend this book to absolutely EVERYBODY but especially to my fellow Latinas who may have felt the need to dim their light, hide their goals & dreams or been told to reduce themselves to a smaller version of who they truly are simply because we seem like too much & we call attention on to ourselves which could make us seem disrespectful at or home or a target when we leave our house. Let us all break the generational cycles we’ve been told to continue.

¡Ni Una Menos! ¡Vivas Nos Queremos!

There are a lot of intense topics that are discussed in this novel that I didn’t fully expect from a YA novel - domestic abuse, abortion / women’s rights in terms of birthing children, missing / unalived women and a few more. So I think this might partially be why I didn’t rate this a little higher. I was expecting an intense book about a girl playing futbol and the inner workings of being on a team as well as what the professional world might be like as a newbie. However, there is less soccer and more of Camilla trying to navigate life in Rosario, Argentina along with a tumultuous relationship with her parents, her brother and a romance with a childhood friend Diego who now plays for an Italian soccer team overseas.

I'm not that into sports, but I found this book to be quite beautiful. I loved getting to know more about Argentine culture and the Ni Una Menos movement.

Camilla aka "Furia" is a strong young woman living in Rosario, Argentina. She has dreams of playing futbol in the USA. When her childhood love, Diego, visits Rosario on a break from his professional futbol career, the two rekindle a romance. Now Camilla must choose which dream to pursue: playing futbol, or a relationship with Diego.

I listened to this story as an audiobook, and really enjoyed it! It was fascinating to learn more about Argentina, and what it would mean for Camilla to try and pursue her dreams from Rosario.

I think her character was written beautifully, and as a young woman she has so much strength, conviction, and heart. I was rooting for her the whole time, no matter what path she chose.

I don't know if I see myself rereading this book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it while listening to it. This is a great book to pick up if you love young adult books, futbol, strong female characters and romance!
