Louis Menand's 'The Free World' covered a lot of the same material as this one in a much more interesting and fulfilling way. Luckily it's fairly short but that's one of the shortcomings.

Overall not bad, there were some parts that I found to be incorrect (I.e. said Sen. Pat McCarran was a Republican - he was a lifelong Democrat). But was a good base level history of some influential figures. I struggled to understand what truly happened in the 50s and what was pre or post dating that era so that felt somewhat confusing throughout. But I think the author got to the essence of why they influenced the era that succeeded the fifties nonetheless.
